Families from all over the Mother City had a blast at the second Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival over the weekend.
The festival, held in the Maynardville Park grounds in Wynberg, attracted over 14 000 people between Friday March 2 and Saturday March 3.
Local artists, such as Youngsta CPT, London Louw, Garner Nel and many more wowed the crowd with their performances. A line-up of DJs, including Dr Jules and DJ Portia, both well-known DJs at Good Hope FM, had young and and old.
A talent search was held and the winning prize of R3 500 was awarded to wheelchair ballroom dancer Cassidy Bailey and her partner Abdul Ismail, both from Athlone, who topped17 talent search contestants.
The Southern Mail stall hosted a family egg and spoon race with participants walking away with awesome branded prizes.
Carnival rides, food stalls, face painting and loads more fun added to the excitement of festival goers.
According to Rozario Brown, the director of the festival, they had made their target this year despite other major events taking place the same weekend and that changes were made to the layout since last year to make it more “people friendly”.
“The beer garden was added to the stalls and it was a hit. The highlight was artist Youngsta CPT who wowed the crowd with his rap. Local talents such as Talitha and Garner Nel also attracted attention and many more. Kids and adults were kept entertained on the rides at the fair,” he said.
Mr Brown thanked everyone for their support, especially festival goers, as well as the traffic department and security companies for ensuring that the event turned out to be a safe event.
