The vigilance of police officers from Steenberg police last week resulted in three guns and ammunition being taken off the streets.
On Thursday July 4, at about 6.30am, a 32-year-old man was arrested in St Alexander Circle, Lavender Hill. Officers were doing patrols and stop-and-search operations because of the ongoing gang violence in the area when they stopped the man who was found with 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
On Tuesday July 2 officers arrested a 42-year-old man for gun possession. At 7.15pm, police were patrolling Shepherd Way when they spotted the suspect, searched him and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol and six rounds of ammunition. On Wednesday July 1, in an unrelated incident, at 6.50am, a 30-year-old man was also arrested with 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition.
Both men appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
