Steenberg police are calling on residents to come forward with information relating to two murders that occurred in the precinct since Saturday.
On Monday July 26, at about 6.50am, Steenberg police were called to a murder scene in Cardross Grant Street in Cafda, Retreat, where the body of a unknown man believed to be in his fifties was found lying in a open field.
Station spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the man had injuries to his neck and chest. “The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and the suspects are unknown and yet to be arrested. A case of murder was opened for investigation,” he said.
In another case a 27-year-old man was shot dead in St Batholomew Street, in St Montague Village, around 7.45am on Saturday July 24.
Sergeant Twigg said according to reports the victim had been on his way to the shop when gunshots went off.
“The deceased was found lying in the road with a gunshot to his head and he was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Sergeant Twigg.
