Jazz musician, Jaryd Philander, 30 , from Retreat, will be sharing his original music in Woodstock on Wednesday March 27.
Jaryd Philander Live At M-PIRE Music will feature Philander on electric guitar supported by the rest of his quartet, Keegan Steenkamp on trumpet, Chadleigh Gowar on bass and Timothy Fortes on drums.
Philander, who is originally from Wetton, says he has loved music since he was a child. “Whether that was hearing music in church or on the radio as my folks would drive me and my sister to school,” he says.
He says he was especially drawn to the electric guitar when he heard the late legendary Jimi Hendrix play the song Voodoo Child. “There was just something about his presence and aura in the way he played the guitar that made me want to do the same,” he says.
The instrumental music to be played at his gig will feature three new original songs titled, Reflections, Prayer of Hope, and The Journey, as well as a blend of traditional jazz, South African jazz and modern jazz.
Philander has been a performing musician since 2018 either performing in a musical duo, trio or quartet. He is planning on releasing an Extended Play (EP) this year.
He is looking forward to performing in front of an audience again. “I am really excited and looking forward to sharing the band stand with my fellow musical brothers and sharing my new music with the audience,” he says.
Jaryd Philander Live At M-PIRE Music will take place at M-Pire Music, 299 Albert Road, Woodstock. Tickets cost R150 each through Quicket.
