A teenager was arrested last week when he was found in possession of a black gun and ammunition on Friday August 17.
Officers from Grassy Park police’s crime intelligence office were carrying out stop and searches when they heard a gunshot going off in the direction of Blackbird Avenue, Parkwood.
Officers then saw a boy run with a firearm in his hand. The suspect dropped the gun and a knife, which officers picked up, and ran after the suspect who entered a nearby house.
The 15-year-old gang member was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and a prohibited firearm and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Christian Esau said police would put their focus on crime heavily dependent on police action and presence.
“In order to alleviate such crime it is best to remove the criminals from the community and bring them to book,” he said.

In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of a .357 Taurus revolver and five rounds of ammunition in Hillview, on Wednesday August 15.
Officers from Operation Thunder responded to a shooting incident in St Edward Road at about 11pm.
When they arrived on the scene they noticed suspicious looking men who tried to evade them but the officers gave chase and caught the man with the gun and ammunition in St Peters Avenue.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Muizenberg police station on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The acting station commander of Muizenberg police, Lieutenant Colonel Mzwandile Gqabi, was pleased with the arrest and thanked the members for their hard work, diligence and bravery in making their community a safer place.
