Grassy Park police praised Parkwood residents for their contribution to fighting crime and playing a role in ridding the community of illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs.
Officers from the station received a tip-off that drugs were being transported in a Toyota Hilux bakkie to a residence in the area.
The bakkie was tracked by officers on Wednesday October 18 and pulled over in Blackbird Avenue to be searched.
A gun, ammunition, two magazines, drugs with an estimated street value of R80 000 and an undisclosed amount of money was found in the bakkie.
A 45-year old man was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal gun and ammunition as well as possession of drugs and has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Grassy Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith, said the station hopes to strengthen the partnership with the commu- nity to ensure safer neighbour- hoods.
