Swift action by Steenberg police officers from the Crime Prevention Unit resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old man for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
On Tuesday June 4 at 10.30pm police were patrolling in St Agatha Street, St Montague Village, Lavender Hill, when they spotted a suspicious looking man who was roaming the street.
They stopped and searched the man and found him in possession of a .38 special revolver and six rounds of ammuni-
tion.
The man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Muizenberg police and other law enforcement agencies conducted various successful operations from May 31 to Tuesday June 4 and arrested 38 people for offences ranging from shoplifting to robbery.
During these various operations, which included the searching of drug houses, stop-and-search and vehicle check-point operations, as well as a large joint operation held on Friday May 31 with various neighbourhood watches.
Seven people were arrested for possession of narcotics, one person for dealing in narcotics, one for housebreaking
and theft, five for shoplifting, one for possession of a dangerous weapon, four for selling liquor without a licence, one for malicious damage to property, two for assault, four for
drunken driving, four for
intimidation, and three were arrested for theft. Drugs,
which included mandrax, tik and dagga and over 500 litres of alcohol were also confiscated.
