Ishraaq Educare Centre, in Lotus River, is calling all former pupils to support the school’s 25th anni-versary celebration lunch, at Retreat civic centre, on Sunday April 10.
The school started with only one classroom on March 18 1991 but now has four classrooms, including a Grade R class.
Principal Wasiela Bougard, who was there since the start, said she has seen many generations pass through their doors. “I do keep in touch with a few former pupils who assist the school. They will be making a speech at the lunch.”
She said the school has been rec-ognised for its achievements. “We won an Early Childhood Development (ECD) award in 2011 and we came second in 2008,” she said.
Although they are a non-profit, Islamic-based school, their syllabus is based partly on Montessori and the CAPS curriculum.
She said they conform to the Western Cape Education Department’s regulations and will soon implement the Stella programme run by Wordworks, an organisation which helps pupils to read.
Ms Bougard said the lunch is fully catered and she would like to invite all former pupils to come and join them. “We want the parents to get involved as well,” she said.
The lunch starts at 11.30am for noon and tickets are R100 each.
