A teacher at a madressa in Ottery has been rearrested after another case of sexual assault was laid against him.
The 45-year-old man will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 27.
He was also arrested for sexual assault in September last year.
He was out on R1 000 bail when he was rearrested by Grassy Park police on Monday November 16.
Last year he was arrested by SAPS’ Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS) Unit at the school for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl.
The latest sexual assault case was made by a victim for an alleged crime dating back to 2007.
Colonel Dawood Laing from Grassy Park SAPS confirmed the man’s arrest and said the victim came to the police station to report it, saying she felt compelled to speak out against all sexual abuse.
The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) said the teacher should step down from all positions held while the court case is being heard and if he fails to do so, the school governing body (SGB) of the school suspend him with immediate effect.
In a statement, Shaykh Irafaan Abrahams, president for the MJC, said: “As we are entering the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, we encourage all those who have been suffering in silence to break their silence and report all offences to the police. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that due processes are followed and more earnestly, that our women and children are protected.
“The law and justice for the survivors and alleged perpetrator must take its course.”
