Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 58-year-old Retreat woman.
At about 3.40pm on Thursday March 25, Steenberg police responded to calls about a shooting in Volksang Road. According to reports the woman had been in her house when gunshots went off outside. She was hit by the stray bullet, sustaining gunshot wounds to her head and chest and was declared dead at the scene.
Steenberg police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said information supplied by the community and witnesses led to the arrest of two men aged 18 and 24 years old on the same day.
According to reports from an anonymous source the bullet was intended for a gang member but the shooters missed. The stray bullets hit the woman and she died in her home. The suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday March 29.
Muizenberg police are calling out residents for a “cowardly”attack on one of their own. A 32-year-old constable was wounded on Monday March 22 while officers were inspecting shebeens in Overcome Heights informal settlement near Seawinds.
A 25-year-old Overcome Heights man was arrested for the assault.
Muizenberg SAPS station commander Colonel Vassie Naidoo said he was disgusted at the attack and urged the public to remain supportive of safety and security actions by police to eradicate the scourge of drug abuse in our precinct.
