Along with their ongoing crime prevention operations, Steenberg police say they have seen positive results in their efforts to rid communities of illegal guns and ammunition.
At about 6.30am on Saturday May 23, officers from the Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 29-year-old man for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the officers had been patrolling in St Agatha Street in St Montague Village when they saw three men walking in the street but when they saw the police vehicle they started running.
“The members chased the suspects and caught the one suspect with the 9mm Luger pistol with serial number WR137819.
He appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s court on Monday May 25 on related charges,” said Sergeant Twigg.
