Crescent Primary School in Heathfield are excited about their results from the annual South African Literacy Association (SALA) Creative Writing Competition which they entered for the first time this year. SALA is an independent organisation that annually invites schools to participate in the writing competition which has three categories: short story, short essay and poetry. Principal Naseerudin Yunus Harneker said Crescent Primary “achieved very good results”. Taskeen Zalgaonkir in Grade 6 came third with 83% for her short story; Faatimah Fisher in Grade 5 also came third with 83% for her short essay; and Mogammad Ameen Isaacs in Grade 4 came second with 92% for his poem and third with 73% for his short story. Mr Harneker said that these results reflect the school’s commitment towards excellence in education, and he thanked both the staff and parents for their hard work and support.
