A fun walk and a colour run at a cancer awareness programme were presented by the Grassy Park Youth Desk Crime Prevention Unit in collaboration with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), at the Vaderlandsche Rietvlei Stables Philippi Farm, on Saturday October 22.
Saadiqah Ganief, chairperson of Grassy Park Youth Desk Crime Prevention Unit, said between 80 and 100 people had participated in “fun-filled activities which were all at a fee as this fund-raiser was aimed at generating funds to donate to Cansa towards their research and educational programmes and support they themselves do”.
Ms Ganief said they focused on the importance of one’s health and taking it seriously.
“Gafsa Davids from Cansa spoke as a cancer survivor and gave her advice and motivation to those who are living with cancer and support systems for families.
“Detection of cancer in the early stages means a successful chance of treatment and for it to work. Your body shouldn’t be taken for granted. Get to know your body and be responsible and proactive at taking care of one’s health,” said Ms Ganief.
