Every year the Grassy Community Police Forum (CPT) and its partners embark on a campaign to call for an end to the attacks on uniformed staff.
This year, along with Grassy Park SAPS and supported by Metro Police, Traffic Services, Metro Ambulance Services and Neighbourhood Watches in the precinct, as they took to the campaign to the streets of Ottery, on Saturday October 22.
“The purpose of the campaign was to create awareness and plead with surrounding communities to stop attacks on uniformed staff while serving our communities and damaging vehicles,” said Nicole Jacobus, deputy chairperson of Grassy Park CPF.
“Early in this month SAPS was in pursuit of a hijacking suspect in New Horizons. When SAPS together with a Tracker Company apprehended the suspects, they were stoned by the community, who tried to prevent the police from arresting the suspect (who) eventually got away,” said Ms Jacobus.
She said law enforcement officers had been attacked while removing an illegal structure in Parkwood. “They had to fire rubber bullets at the community. We will continue to bring awareness to our communities and we need to stand behind our uniformed staff,” said Ms Jacobus.
