Heathfield High School’s Team A claimed the second prize in this year’s finals of the Cape Argus Food Lover’s Market High Schools Quiz.
They won R25 000 for the school while each team member received R2 000.
The event took place at Oaklands High School, in Kenwyn where Maitland High’s Team B secured first place, winning R35 000 and R3 000 for each team member.
Heathfield High School teacher Wesley Neumann said this had been the “furthest the school has progressed in four years of competing. This has been a major achievement for the school and this will go down as one of the memorable moments in the history of the school. We will definitely be competing again next year and be contesting for top honours,” said Mr Neumann.
This year, a record 92 teams from various schools across the Cape were split into 23 groups of four schools each, before competing to get to the knock-out stages. The quiz, which is in its ninth year, encourages high school pupils to test their knowledge of news and current affairs based on information found within the pages of the Cape Argus.
