Invisible Hands are aiming to serve their four-millionth meal since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown, with the help of contributions.
The non-profit organisation was established in 2015 in Wynberg and cooked at that location for the first million people. On March 1 2022 they moved into their new premises at 2 Gleemoor Road, Athlone.
Invisible Hands intend to reach the four million meal mark during the holy month of Ramadaan, which started this week. “Invisible Hands, in conjunction with over 100 esteemed distribution partners intend to cook over 1200 pots of food for the month of Ramadaan, feeding in excess of 275 000 guests from the poor and needy community,” said executive member Yusuf Gabier affectionately known as Jo Spaza.
“Invisible Hands is a charity organisation which focuses on feeding the needy by cooking 100-litre pots of food that are distributed throughout the Western Cape. Invisible Hands cooks throughout the year and to date, since the start of lockdown in March 2020, the team have thus far fed 3.75 million warm cooked meals.”
The organisation is currently busy with an appeal for donations in cash or product towards cooking the target of 1200 100-litre pots of food during Ramadaan.
“Invisible Hands cooks a 100-litre pot of food for as little as R1250 per pot, which feeds about 260 guests. For sustainability purposes, costs are kept as low as possible so feeding a child could cost about R4.81 a meal. However, we are not limited to cooking extreme budget meals. Other meals cooked by Invisible Hands include dhal, beans food, chicken akni, vegetable akni, meat akni, etc. These warm cooked meals are tried to be cooked within a budget of R2 500.”
Mr Gabier said all donations would be greatly appreciated.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their ongoing support and wish all Muslims a blessed Ramadaan.”
