The Loxion Mobile Library (LML) & Royal Tigers FC joined forces in honouring Nelson Mandela, by presenting a #67mins literacy inspired event to five early childhood development (ECD) centres.
The children enjoyed a cinema day, soccer tournament and attended the launch of the LML Mascot called KyKa, the reading Giraffe.
Lithe Sam-Sam, librarian and Vrygrond resident, said the mobile library was established in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and serves 241 children. He is appealing for donations of books for children aged 3 to 13, stationery and chairs. Call 060 463 6496.
Lakeside resident Genie Vittu, right, assisted Vrygrond resident Deon Jansen, gardener at the Vrygrond Community Centre, to plant donated vegetable seedlings from Super Plants in Tokai, as well as fynbos seedlings donated from FynbosLIFE Nursery in Muizenberg.
Mr Jansen said he grew up in the area and remembered it being full of fynbos and insects and his hopes are to create a garden for the children in the community to enjoy and learn from.
