Police are investigating a case of murder after a security guard was shot and killed at Ottery Chinatown on Saturday November 5, at around 3.30pm.
According police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, Herman Hendricks, 38, was shot while on duty and robbed of his firearm.
While China Town Centre management’s Pierre Steenkamp had earlier told media that someone was arrested on the day of the shooting after clear images of the suspect were caught on CCTV cameras, however, Lieutenant Colonel Traut denied that any arrests were made.
Mr Steenkamp said the centre is fully cooperating with the police investigation.
“It is with deep regret that one of the security guards was fatally shot; our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
“At this stage, it seems to be an isolated incident that has happened.
“We have as a precaution increased our security presence at each of the China Town Cape Town locations, and will continue to trade as normal,”said Mr Steenkamp.
