Two Lavender Hill residents have launched a netball club after seeing the talent for the sport displayed by girls in the area.
Coach Hilton Majiet and his partner, vice-chairperson Dino Majiet, launched HD United Netball Club, at Keppel Court, in Lavender Hill, three months ago.
Hilton said they already have teams at under-18, under-15, under-13 and seniors who play leagues on Saturdays and rebel (fun games) on Sundays, either on their grounds or away.
Games usually start at 2pm and end at 6pm.
“We are assisting the underprivileged children and supporting them while serving them a proper plate of food after the game,” said Hilton.
The former Western Province volleyball player said he felt he needed to, “give back to the community when I saw the potential in netball not volleyball. Our club falls under the Cape Flats netball group,” he said.
If anyone wants to assist the teams with netball equipment such as balls and bibs etc, call Hilton on 061 216 1830.
