Police catch fraudsters red handed

Forged documents were found in Parkwood.

Grassy Park police arrested two fraudsters last week thanks to a tip-off.

On Thursday August 19, at about 9pm, officers from the Visible Police and Crime Prevention Units followed up on information of documentation forgery at a premises at Diamond Court in Nita Road, Lotus River.

When officers arrived on the scene the alleged suspect was found hiding under a bed. Police also found the fraudulent documentation and further information led to a second suspect in Blackbird Avenue in Parkwood where they found printing machines, laptops, hard drives and other equipment.

Police found fraudulent matric certificates, money, passports and other documents.

Fake identity documents, passports, drivers’ licences, asylum papers, fake money, bank cards, fake police ID and other documents were also found.

All items were confiscated and both suspects were arrested on charges of forgery.

Both men, aged 32 and 31, will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once charged.
