On Friday July 8 at about 10am, while Muizenberg police were on a pamphlet drive, they arrested two men for possession of counterfeit goods.

Officers also stopped and searched 32 vehicles along Vrygrond Avenue and Military Road.

It was during one of these searches that police discovered the counterfeit cigarettes, with an estimated value of R27 000 in the boot of a red VW Polo.

The two occupants, aged 18 and 36, Pakistani foreign nationals and residents of Hanover Park, were arrested and detained at Muizenberg police station on charges of possession of counterfeit cigarettes.

They appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 11.

Three fines to the value of R2 500 were also issued for various traffic offences.

Acting station commander of Muizenberg SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Deidre Engelbrecht, praised the members for their good work and encouraged the community to remain supportive of the police’s ongoing efforts to eradicate crime.
