A long-awaited reunion finally took place when 350 members of the Williams family, who predominantly come from Grassy Park, met at South Peninsula High School, on Sunday October 9.
Mogamat Williams, coordinator, said the reunion was sparked when a few of his cousins went on an outing to Langebaan where they decided it was time to reunite the whole family.
“As time went by, extended families grew apart and also due to Covid, we did not have the usual get together such as on Boxing Day where the whole family would enjoy a day out at Seaforth beach.”
Mr Williams said it was important to keep in touch with family. The families all wore different colours to represent 12 of the 14 children of Abdullah and Gawa (nee Slamang) Williams. Two of the children died at birth.
While some shared lots of food, others young and old, had a fun time playing games such as tug of war, 6-a-side soccer, touch rugby, and egg and spoon and sack races. Afterwards they played dominoes, klawerjas and table tennis in the hall.
