Lotus River residents got to rub shoulders with outgoing mayor Patricia de Lille last week.
Ms De Lille visited the area as part of a service delivery open day held at the Lotus River multi purpose centre in Buck Road on Wednesday September 19.
The open day, organised by Ward 65 councillor, Patricia Van der Ross, gave residents an opportunity to raise pertinent issues with the officials from various departments including revenue, housing, health, law enforcement and social development.
Ms De Lille said the initiative was aimed at taking service delivery closer to residents who could not afford transport fees to go to council offices and to improve relations between the municipality and residents.
The mayor also went to Grassdale High School to wish the matric class well with their final exams and encouraged them to become useful citizens.
During the visit, Ms De Lille said R350 000 had been allocated to fence off a footbridge and nearby alleys which residents and the Central Neighbourhood Watch, operating in Raymond Circle and the surrounding areas, had long been complaining about (“Bridge a safety risk”, Southern Mail, February 14).
They want it removed or enclosed because it is crime hotspot for
robberies, drug peddling and murders.
Fuad Titus, of the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum said this initiative would greatly benefit the community.
