A year after publishing her first book, an Ottery woman has written two more books to add to her oeuvre.
In her first book in the series of books titled Miesies, Elizabeth Wilson, 54, details her upbringing, how she was raised by her grandmother in Beaufort West, and the circumstances that led to her life today (“Ottery woman gets chance to tell her story”, Southern Mail March 15, 2023).
Ms Wilson’s lifelong dream to publish her story became a reality when her son offered to publish her manuscript as a gift after many failed attempts at publishers. The rejections, however, fuelled her dream even more and she continued working on it and encouraged others to not give up on their dreams.
The title of her book, Miesies, is a nickname her grandmother affectionately called her when she was a child.
Both of the follow-up books were published this year and will be released next month. The first book called Many Moons Ago delves into Ms Wilson’s school years at Lotus High School in Ottery.
“This book is more of the funny side of Miesies were I talk about my high school days and one of the sub-headings is called ”School, Jokes, and Boys“. It is basically about what kind of student I was and the funny things me and my friends did at school,” said Ms Wilson.
The book also references the coloured personalities and characteristics, the funny nicknames they come up with, and what makes Capetonians different.
The second book, a children’s book called Kleine Miesies is about her life as a child growing up in Beaufort West after her mother left her with her grandmother at eight months old, how she grew up, and the transition moving to Cape Town when she was 9 years old.
The book launch takes place on Saturday May 4 at the Novalis Ubuntu Institute at the Dome Building in Rosmead Avenue, Wynberg, from 11am to 3pm.
